Smorgasburg + boat cruise = Smorgasboat. On June 13th, Smorgasburg is holding a sunset cruise from Williamsburg to the Statue of Liberty featuring Smorgasburg food vendors, Brooklyn Brewery and Brooklyn Roasting Co. A $45 ticket covers you for food, drinks, and the afterparty on the rooftop at the King & Grove, and tickets benefit City Harvest. Looks like a pretty good way to celebrate summer in Brooklyn.

Take a peek into Williamsburg’s brand new Wythe Hotel

More awesome things to do this weekend: The Brooklyn Flea Record Fair is being held this Saturday in Williamsburg at Smorgasburg (regular Flea will still be in Ft. Greene). There will be tons of selections from record labels like Captured Tracks, Domino, Jagjaguwar, Secretly Canadian and way more. Come check it out and score some great vinyl!

“You’re where?”

One of my favorite street art teams, Faile, has recently completed an awesome tile job on a building at 104 North 7th in Williamsburg. Comprised of roughly 9,000 hand-painted tiles, it borrows a lot from their recent temple project in Portugal. Swing by and check it out next time you’re in Williamsburg, there’s so much detail in this piece.

[Flash 9 is required to listen to audio.] Eternal Summers, I Must Winter From the album The Dawn of Eternal Summers. 251 plays

I’ve always had a soft spot in my heart for lo-fi female vocalists. A lot of them sound similar, but I just really dig them. So “I Must Winter” by Eternal Summers is, of course, right up my alley. It’s a track off the band’s latest album, The Dawn of Eternal Summers, where you’ll hear traces of Dum Dum Girls, Widowspeak, and even a less-scary Warpaint. You can catch these guys at the Northside Festival with a bunch of other great bands in Williamsburg this summer.

Marty Markowitz, our esteemed Borough President, spits some hot fire and reps BK as he “covers” Gza’s “Liquid Swords”. Awesome. Markowitz was announcing the line-up for the Northside Festival this summer in Williamsburg/Greenpoint, which so far, includes Gza (of course), Screaming Females, Of Montreal, ?uestlove, and Eternal Summers, among others. Way more to be announced!

Drive-In Dinner

This year, Edible Brooklyn and the Brooklyn Brewery will be hosting a Drive-In Dinner, featuring the borough’s best food trucks! The Red Hook Lobster Pound, Morris Grilled Cheese, Feed Your Hole, Bongo Brothers and Coolhaus will be providing a 5-course tasting menu, with Brooklyn Brewery providing beer pairings for each course. Looks awesome, grab your tickets here!

Widowspeak headlined the Death By Audio’s 5 year birthday party in Williambsurg this past weekend, which also featured performances by Eternal Summers, Bleeding Rainbow (formerly Reading Rainbow) and Shark? Check out more pictures and videos from Saturday night over at Brooklyn Vegan

Here is the absurdly sunny new video for the Crystal Fighter’s single “Plage”. I’m going to dub this ecstasy-tropicalia. (Full disclosure: this is my cousin’s band). If you dig what you hear, they’ll be playing Glasslands next week, stop by and say hi.

This episode of +1 on Pitchfork TV with SF garage rock pioneers Thee Oh Sees should give you some insight into what I was up to this weekend. Got to hang with frontman John Dwyer for a bit, he is a great guy. Here, they perform “I Was Denied” at 285 Kent in Williamsburg, and discuss the insane energy of their live shows.
