This is making me really wish I hadn’t given away my old set of bars

Does it count as cheating if I’m only drooling looking? Don’t tell my current ride, but these Fuji Feathers look so damn clean.

Brooklyn Bike Jumble

This weekend I’m having one of those great problems where there is literally just too much going on. I’ll be at the Great Googa Mooga all weekend, but on Saturday morning, if you’re free head down to the Brooklyn Bike Jumble in Park Slope! It’s essentially a giant bike flea market, with new and vintage bikes, parts, and gear. Plus, half the fun is checking out everyone else’s rides. I went last year and had a blast.

We asked for it and here they are: the new bike share locations for 2012!

The very first Women’s Prestige was held recently in San Francisco, and it was a huge success. Covering 116 miles of beautiful California terrain, this is the first time a race of this kind was held for women. Hope it becomes an annual thing, this footage is amazing!

With this homemade bike, a former world champion cyclist hopes to reach the speed of 100 mph.

There’s no way that this is a good idea

Check out my pics from the New Amsterdam Bike Show today! Especially the insane Octopus Bike by BK-based Horse Cyclesinsane.

The Invisible Helmet by Swedish designer Hövding is worn as a collar, inflates on impact, looks pretty absurd but may save your life.

Winter Rider gives viewers as a peek into the culture of East Coast winter surfing, specifically here in NYC/BK. Shot on a LomoKino camera, this short film follows one super brave lady from her BK apt, on a 15 mile bike ride (with surfboard) out to Rockaway Beach on an 18 degree winter’s day to catch some waves.

Bicycle Portraits” is an amazing photography project by cyclists Stan Engelbrecht & Nic Grobler who spent two years in South Africa to document the bike culture there; to find out who rode bikes and why. In their TED talk, they explained their motive was to “promote cycling as a means of independent transport to empower the underprivileged, and to encourage everyone capable to ride a bike.” The project quickly expanded, and they collected stories and portraits of over 500 cyclists, which they are now publishing in three books. They also collaborated with South African artist Gabrielle Raaff to create an individual hand-painted watercolor map to indicate the location of each of the portraits. The authors are planning to dedicate a portion of the proceeds towards setting up a support structure for the South African cycling community.
