“Writing a Novel” may be Father John Misty’s most autobiographical song on his upcoming album Fear Fun. In interviews, he’s described living out of his van for 2 months, driving from Seattle to Laurel Canyon while writing a novel “on enough mushrooms to choke a horse”. This song seems to be describing that experience (while also being seriously reminiscent of Dylan’s “Black Crow Blues”).
